Passing a cave, hilltop cairn (ancient history) and stone dove cote!! We are starting from the village of Llanasa. It is a circular route muddy in parts. There is a big car park in the centre of the village mainly for the church use also there is a pub called the red lion which is friendly and can go there after the walk. I would describe the walk as moderate. Drivers need to put a route plan of how to get to Llanasa as it is a bit in the countryside off the A55.

The grading of the walk is moderate based on the distance of 9½ miles. The majority of this walk is on the flat and mostly footpath based on parts other Cheshire Lines path, lanes and the Liverpool to Leeds Canal towpath. There will be a pub stop during the walk. The lunch stop will be at the Ship Inn, Haskayne which serves reasonably priced pub food. There will be opportunities to eat sandwiches etc before we go to the pub. There will be time on the lunch stop if you want to eat lunch in the pub. There are no toilets at the start of the walk and the pub stop is approximately two thirds of the way along the walk. Transport Option : Public Bus Transport The No 311 Liverpool to Skelmersdale Route. Catch the 9:07 am bus at Sir Thomas Street (Stand SA) Anna will catch this bus Bus Route Information Cost: The lowest cost option is to by a "Save Away all Zone" ticket in advance. WALK 93: BRIMHAM ROCKS: NORTH YORKSHIRE Walk Starting Point: Car park South Side of the Nidd Bridge in the village of Pateley Bridge Walk Start Time: 10:30am Leader: Wendy Nulty Walk Length: 8.7 miles Graded: Moderate - Click here for Grading Info Start Pt OS Map Ref: SE157655 Start Pt Nearest Postcode: HG3 5BD Instructions for Drivers: Driving route Liverpool to Start Point Longitude: 54:05:07N (54.08519) Latitude: 1:45:41W (-1.7615) [for finding the Startpoint on Sat Nav's] Walk Description : This is a lovely walk from Pateley Bridge along the River Nidd up through mixed woodland, down quiet farm tracks to the wierd and wonderful Brimham Rocks. This National Trust property has some amazing rock formations, great views over the valley and a chance to grab a cuppa at the cafe. Its then a leisurely walk across field and tracks to Pateley bridge a great village with 2 good butchers, great pub, chippy, health food shop and walking shop. Toilets at start/end and half way round (if cafe open at Brimham Rocks) Estimated time for route = 4 1/2 hours Some uphill sections on route but nothing too strenuous! May be muddy accross fields and in woodland

After climbing Bulkeley Hill you continue to Raw Head (227m) is the highest point and has great views over the Cheshire plains. There is a couple of uphill sections and one steep down hill section after leaving Raw Head but all in all a pleasant walk. Have rated this moderate but I was very close to putting leisurely people will only find it moderate if they don’t like uphill and downhill sections but there is nothing strenuous.

The original carpark is very small and was full (on a Sunday when the shops were closed) when the Reccie was done. Walk Description : This walk has been chosen from “Walks into History Cheshire” & is based in the historic area Nantwich & Acton. The walk will pass through the battlefield site along with other historical sites. We will be walking on Market Day and will stop at the market on the way back .

Starting on the edge of Heswall, this walk takes us to the National Trust owned Heswall fields, before a brief walk on the Wirral way takes us to Thurstaston visitors centre. From here we head up to Thurstaston hill, one of the highest points on the Wirral, and from which you can view Liverpool to the east, and the Dee Estuary and the Clwydian Hills to the west. We then head to Heswall Dales via Dungeon wood, before returning to the start. This is a gentle walk suitable for all abilities. No Minibus for this walk. A fine mixture of deciduous and coniferous woodland, open grass meadows, with the very pretty village of Barley as a bonus.

A good head for heights is required as parts of the ridge is quite exposed. The walk overlooks the exquisite Grisedale Valley before crossing Striding Edge and scrambling up to the 950m summit. The descent is more gentle and takes the Keppel Cove Track across Lower Man and Whiteside Bank, down past the Helvellyn Youth Hostel and back to Glenridding.

Our walk will take us past some of the beautiful villas perched on the side of the hill, through woodland and up to the Wizard's Well and Castle Rock. We then progress on secluded and unspoilt paths and return via cobbled country lanes. There may be chance to have a drink in one of Alderley Edge's drinking establishments before heading back home on the train. WALK 101: THE NANTLLE RIDGE: NORTH WALES Walk Starting Point: Rhyd-Ddu Car park Walk Start Time: 10:30am Leader: Grant Gibson Walk Length: 8.5 miles Graded: Strenuous- Click here for grading info Start Pt OS Map Ref: SH569529 Start Pt Nearest Postcode: LL54 6TL Instructions for Drivers: Driving route Liverpool to Start Point Longitude: 53:03:15N (53.05416) Latitude: 4:08:11W (-4.13651) [for finding the Startpoint on Sat Nav's] Walk Description : This is a linear walk emcompassing the Nantlle Ridge. The Nantlle ridge is one of the classic ridge walks of snowdonia, second only to the snowdon horseshoe and Tryfan/Bristly ridge. But unlike these more hardcore ridges, the Nantlle ridge is a much gentler introduction to the ridges of Snowdonia. Starting in the village of Rhyd-ddu, one of the quieter starting points for an ascent of Snowdon, we will instead be heading west, ascending five separate peaks across the entire Nantlle ridge. The walk finishes with a walk through the western foothills of snowdonia, before arriving in the village of Talysarn.

The path crosses the A54 through Primrose hill wood before ending at Willingdon. The route is easy to follow has no hazards other than road crossings and at one point it follows a road for one third of a mile. There are two pubs and two good cafes on route.

No Minibus for this Walk Meet at outside Aigburth Station at 6.30 pm. Last train to catch from Liverpool Central before the walk starts is the 18:14. Train fare single - £2. The walk will end in Central Liverpool. The route follows the promenade from Aigburth along the river Mersey for most of this walk. This walk is completely flat and mostly on pavement so trainers or comfy shoes would be kinder on the feet than your usual walking boots. WALK 106: HIGH STREET VIA ROUGH CRAG: LAKE DISTRICT Walk Starting Point: Mardale Car Park, head of Haweswater Walk Start Time: 10:30am Leader: Kate Skinner Walk Length: 6.65 miles Graded: Strenuous- Click here for grading info Start Pt OS Map Ref: NY469107 Start Pt Nearest Postcode: CA10 2RP Instructions for Drivers: Driving route Liverpool to Start Point Longitude: 54:29:21N (54.48919) Latitude: 2:49:14W (-2.82051) [for finding the Startpoint on Sat Nav's] Walk Description : A very pretty walk to the highest point in the far Eastern Fells with fantastic views to the Pennines and Central Fells. Steeped in history and with the possibility of some bird watching for the Golden Eagle which lives in this area! The route ascends from the head of Haweswater via a scrambly path up Rough Crag and Long Stile (it's not difficult but hands are needed in a few places) to the Cairn at 828m (Racecourse Hill). From here the walk follows the old Roman Road, going North, until bearing NE towards Kidsty Pike. (There is the option to take in the Knott at 739m if time allows). From Kidsty Pike the walk follows a clear path back down to the lake where a path back to the car park is followed. Please note the car park is quite small and there are no toilets (so we will make sure we stop on the motorway before turning off!)

The walk climbs an easy course across the mouth of Cwm Caregog then circles the impressive cliffs of Cwm Clogwyn. Descending the Snowdon Ranger Path with was originally used as a pony track. The route provides rough moorland walking on relatively quiet paths and includes Upper Grindsbrook, Crowden Brook and Edale Cross before descending Jacob's Ladder on the return to Edale.

WALK 110: THE OLD MAN OF CONISTON : LAKE DISTRICT Walk Starting Point: Coniston Tourist Information Centre Walk Start Time: 10:30am Leader: Grant Gibson Walk Length: 8 miles Graded: Strenuous - Click here for grading info Start Pt OS Map Ref: SD304975 Start Pt Nearest Postcode: LA21 8EH Instructions for Drivers: Driving route Liverpool to Start Point Longitude: 54:22:07N (54.36873) Latitude: 3:04:24W (-3.07341) [for finding the Startpoint on Sat Nav's] Walk Description : Wainwright described the Old Man of Coniston as 'a Benevolent Giant' overlooking the pretty village of Coniston, and the nearby Coniston water. Starting in the village of Coniston, this walk leads us through old mine workings and Levers water, before ascending via a (very) easy scrambly walk to Swirl How, the highest point of the Coniston Fells. From here we then walk along a gentle ridge to the Old Man itself, where on a clear day Morecambe bay, Blackpool Tower, can possibly even Snowdonia can be seen. We then return to Coniston via the Tarn of Low Water. Although graded strenuous, the terrain is not particularly steep or difficult, and is suitable for anyone who can manage any of our strenuous walks. In the event of poor weather, an easy graded walk from Coniston to Tarn Hows will take place instead.

The walk attempts to highlight the history of ports in the River Dee which actually started in Chester (in Roman times) but proceeded further and further down river as the river silted up. Eventually the last Wirral side port was at Parkgate. A good summer evening walk.

WALK 112:ABER FALLS, FOEL-FRAS & DRUM FROM ABERGWYNGREGYN: NORTH WALES Walk Starting Point: Forestry Commission car park Abergwyngregyn Walk Start Time: 10:45am Leader: Steven King Walk Length: 9 miles Graded: Strenuous- Click here for grading info Start Pt OS Map Ref: SH665719 Start Pt Nearest Postcode: LL33 0LP Instructions for Drivers: Driving route Liverpool to Start Point Longitude: 53:13:42N (53.2282) Latitude: 4:00:16W (-4.00443) [for finding the Startpoint on Sat Nav's] Walk Description : A short leisurely walk up to the scenic Aber Falls then up and over the top of the falls following the stream upward. Strenuous section up towards Llwytmor, Foel-Fras and then a scenic walk over to Drum, down to Foel Ganol and finally back to the car park to rest those weary legs. This classic horseshoe walk is part of the Carnnedau Range with fantastic views of Snowdonia and Anglessey. The Car Park is a little off the Road in the small village of Abergwyngregyn. The OS Map Reference is the actual car park we'll be meeting over the small bridge and to the right. Toilet facilities at this car park and parking is £2.

The return leg explores yet more wide-open spaces before dropping to Little Stainforth and the banks of the River Ribble. Stainforth Force provides a spectacular white-water moment before the river relaxes and is followed all the way back to Settle.

The route takes us through the Red Squirrel Nature Reserve, over sand dunes, through forests and along the beach to a well earned drink at one of the many pubs in Southport.
No Minibus for this Walk Use of the Southport Train from Liverpool Central Station (Northern Line) to Freshfield Station Departing from Liverpool Central on the 9:23 train (9:53 is the last train that will get you there on time). Return Charge of £4.40 for the train [Correct at time of writing:- Check the train time close to the walk date]. As this is a linear walk, people travelling by car will be required to travel back to Freshfield. For people travelling by train, a return ticket to Southport will cover the whole journey. WALK 116: THE SANDSTONE TRAIL SECTION 2 WILLINGTON TO BICKERTON: CHESHIRE Walk Starting Point: Willington Hall Hotel Walk Start Time: 10:00am Leader: Paul Edge Walk Length: 11.25 miles Graded: Moderate - Click here for grading info Start Pt OS Map Ref: SJ534661 Start Pt Nearest Postcode: CW6 0NB Instructions for Drivers: Driving route Liverpool to Start Point Longitude: 53:11:25N (53.1903) Latitude: 2:41:48W (-2.69671) [for finding the Startpoint on Sat Nav's] Walk Description : This is the second and best section of the Sandstone trail in Cheshire. The walk begins by the rolling hills of Cheshire farmland to the Shropshire Union canal. Here there is the first of 3 pubs and a possible lunch spot near the canal. The walk then passes Beeston Castle and climbs up the sandstone ridge that overlooks the Cheshire plain. Passing numerous view spots the Pheasant Inn Pub and Peckforton Castle. The route then strikes north towards the view point of Rawhead farm and down onto the A534. Here we can finish the walk and one of Two pubs the Bickerton Poacher or The Coppermine. This is an extremely interesting walk in terms of wildlife, history and some excellent views.

It follows an easy gradient, except for the steep descent at the walk's end which requires care. The Car Park is a little off the Road.
